AMELIA EARHEART
Growing Up
Amelia Earheart was born on July 24 , 1897 in Atchison Kansas. It wasn't long before Amelia's little sister Muriel came along. Muriel and Amelia went to their first fair. Amelia saw a roller coaster and asked her mom if she could go for a ride. Sad for Amelia, her mom said "that wobbly thing is too dangerous for a little girl". Amelia was down that she didn't get to ride the roller coaster. While Amelia and Muriel were at there grandma's house Amelia found some old planks by the shed. Since Amelia didn't get to ride the roller coaster she decided she'd make her own When it was done, Amelia was the first to go. She said it felt like flying. It was Muriel's turn she loved it. Soon enough all the neighborhood kids were going up and down on that roller coaster.
Amelia and Muriel were different from other girls they asked for footballs for Christmas and jumped over fences like boys would do. They would wear shorts and pants instead of skirts and dresses. Around their dad they could do anything. He would even play sheriffs and cowboys with them. Their mother never cared either. Sometimes grandma would question if the girls shold act more lady like.
At Amelia and Muriel's second fair the first ever airplane was flying up, up, and up and flew right by the huge crowd.. Unfortunately, Amelia was too focused on her winning prize; a hat made from an upside-down peach basket
Amelia the Pilot
In the summer of 1920 in California Amelia first got into flying when her dad took her in her first airplane ride and right then she knew she was meant to fly. She took her first lesson from Neta Snook the only woman teaching at that point. Neta Snook charged $1 per minute. When Amelia finally got her license, she was only the sixthteenth woman in the world to have one.
Amelia's first big flight was flying over the Atlantic Ocean in 1928. She was the first woman to fly over the Atlantic so they had to keep it top secret. They barely made it over the Atlantic Ocean. When Amelia got back she was a celebrity. George Putnam, the man who arranged the flight made Amelia famous.Years later Amelia married George on February 7, 1931. Amelia wanted to fly over the Atlantic again but this time solo. On May 20, 1932, she achieved her goal but instead of landing in paris she landed in a medow.
Amelia Lost
Amelia thought bigger, she wanted to travel around the globe. In March, 1937 Amelia took flight but her plane was damaged and caught on fire. Amelia and her crew couldn't go on. They decided to make a second attempt in May, 1937. All went well until just after Lae, New Guinia. The crew was making their way to Howland Island when they vanished.
THERE ARE RUMORS THAT AMELIA SURVIVED
BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
